Ice skating

I took the kids ice skating today and they had a blast! It was their first time ever. Dawson was shooting around the rink in no time at all. Dylan put his feet on the ice and said it was too slippery. He waited until the last 15 minutes of skating time and tip toed out by himself. He got around the rink twice before having to get off and felt sooo bad he waited so long to get out there and have fun. Both want to go back tomorrow.
I hope everyone has a safe New Years Eve. Gods Blessings on all of you in the New year!

the 12 days of home schooling

To the tune of "Twelve Days of Christmas.

On the first day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Can you homeschool legally?"

On the second day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the third day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the fourth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the fifth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "YOU ARE SO STRANGE! What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?

"On the sixth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "How long will you homeschool, YOU ARE S0 STRANGE, what about P.E. , do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the seventh day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, do you homeschool legally?"

On the eighth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E. do you give them tests, are they socialized, do you homeschool legally?"

On the ninth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "They'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E. do you give them tests, are they socialized, do you homeschool legally?"

On the tenth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "What about graduation, they'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the eleventh day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "I could never do that, what about graduation, they'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the twelfth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Can they go to college, I could never do that, what about graduation, they'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the thirteenth day of homeschool I thoughtfully replied: "They Can go to college, yes you can do this, they can have graduation, we don't like the prom, we do it cuz we like it, they are missing nothing, we'll homeschool forever, WE ARE NOT STRANGE!, We give them P.E., and we give them tests, they are socialized, AND WE HOMESCHOOL LEGALLY!

On the fourteenth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "How can I get started, why didn't you tell me, where do I buy curriculum, when is the next conference, WILL PEOPLE THINK WE'RE STRANGE? I think we can do this, if you will help us, can we join P.E. and we'll homeschool legally."

girls day at home

Today Troy took the boys to bagels and then to putt putt golf which left me and Caitlin at home alone. We had a great day eating pop sickles and swinging on the swing. She is growing up so fast, it's hard to believe she is all most 2 years old.

When the boys came back Dawson went right to work putting some lego kits together. I sat with him for a while and talked. Dylan asked if I would put together his because they were to hard for him to do. So for at least 2 hours Dawson and I had some quality time. I have to say it was pretty relaxing to "play" with legos.

Dylans been riding his new bike. I thought we might have to put training wheels on it but he doesn't need them at all! I should look into a seat for Caitlin and put her on my bike so we can all go out riding. I need the exercize!

So I am thinking about New Years resolutions.........just thinking so far.

Christmas at the Stitt home

The kids had a great Christmas this year. Here are the highlights.....
Caitlin has a princess kitchen complete with running water! The boys got a Nintendo ds. which was the only thing on their list. We threw in a bike for Dylan and a camera for Dawson and we haven't seen or heard from them since. (smile)

Is it Christmas yet?

Dylan is just dying to get Christmas started! I have never seen him so excited. He is the best gift wrapper too! Dawson is probably just as excited as Dylan but he's playing it cool. They told me they are going to hide behind the couch on Christmas eve so they can catch Santa delivering their gifts, or......leave a note and tell Santa to draw a picture of himself.

This morning getting ready for church Caitlin and I had some difficulty agreeing on what she should wear. I had 3 different (really beautiful ) Christmas dresses out to pick from but she wanted to wear her bathing suit. Daddy thought she could wear it under one of her pretty dresses. Well that sounded like a good idea so she puts on her bathing suit but will have nothing to do with the pretty dresses. we finally got some pants and a shirt on over the bathing suit and went to church. Pick your battles.......She didn't have a beautiful dress on but she was happy and behaved like an angel during service, and that is priceless!

Santa at the mall

We had our normal Friday today. We added a trip to the mall to see Santa and take a picture. We found out last year that there is no way Caitlin is going to sit on Santa's lap without freaking out. That year we all sat on Santa's lap and we repeated that this time. It worked out great.

The boys bought themselves Christmas gifts yesterday, wrapped them and put them under the tree all ready. They have been bugging me to open them early. I keep saying no but Dylan tries his best to change my mind. He said, "we can open one gift a day like they do for harmonica" (smile)
I just love my kids!!

HO HO HO

This is what happens when it's dads turn to give the bath!

Dylans Christmas Party

Tonight Dylan decided to have a Christmas Party for all of us in his bedroom. He is a good little entertainer. He decorated had Christmas music and a tree all lit up. He served us yummy cookies and we put together a puzzle and played a game of sorry. He even had some goodie bags to give us when the party was over. It was the best party I ever went to! Troy thanked him tonight for inviting him and said if he ever has another one to let him know.....We are on for tomorrow at 7:00. He wants me to bring doughnuts.

cookies

I wanted to bake Christmas cookies with the kids tonight. I have been looking for recipes that are dairy free for Caitlin because she has a terrible milk allergy. I finally found one but I have to have a cookie press to make them. No problem I'll run right up to Wal mart. 3 stores later I end up at Tuesday Mornings and find one. I am so excited, I start getting everything out I need but can't find one beater for my mixer. Troy said he saw Caitlin with it the other day, who knows where it is now. I use the only one I have. I get out my nifty new cookie press load it up with dough and I get about 6 cookies on my cookie sheet and the handle stops working. Urgh!! Now I have a refrigerator full of dough a broken press and no cute little picture of Christmas cookies to post. anyway.......
School was good today. We are doing a unit study on "The Velveteen Rabbit". It goes with the giving theme of December. We are also going over the symbols of Christmas. our books today were "The Legend of the Candy cane" by Lori Walburg and "The Fir Tree" by Hans Christian Andersen. We are going over fact , fiction and personification. They will write a story about their favorite toy coming to life and make a movie of it. Home schooling is fun isn't it!
Bible verse this week...Psalms 100:1-3 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness come before Him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God

1 Corinthians 13 Christmas

If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows, strands of twinkling lights and shiny balls, but do not show love to my family, I’m just another decorator.
If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime, but do not show love to my family, I’m just another cook.
If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home and give all that I have to charity, but do not show love to my family, it profits me nothing.
If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes, attend a myriad of holiday parties and sing in the choir’s cantata but do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.
Love stops the cooking to hug the child. Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the husband. Love is kind, though harried and tired. Love doesn’t envy another’s home that has coordinated Christmas china and table linens.
Love doesn’t yell at the kids to get out of the way, but is thankful they are there to be in the way. Love doesn’t give only to those who are able to give in return but rejoices in giving to those who can’t.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. Video games will break, pearl necklaces will be lost, golf clubs will rust, but giving the gift of love will endure.

Merry Christmas!

Fridays at the Stitt home

It's Friday!
For the past 5 to 6 years now every Friday morning the kids and I meet tu tu ( Troys mom ) at Einsteins Bagels. We were joking today they should have the big table reserved for us by now. (Or at least get the order right) The kids look forward to it every week. Then every Friday night since Dawson was little we get pizza and watch a movie. We have been watching Christmas shows this month but tonight it's our old favorite "The Incredibles".
We have been bowling with a home school group the past couple of months. Guess what day it falls on.........Your right, Fridays! Today Dawson bowled a 99! I wish I had a video camera to tape them. Dawson holds the ball straight over his head and then swings his arm way behind him before he throws the ball. Dylan runs up to the line and throws the ball like hes trying to get it in a basket in the middle of the lane, then stand there and watches it roll, waving his hand right or left as if telling the ball where to go. Too funny.
Caitlin got a new Christmas outfit from tu tu today. ( Tu Tu is grandma in Hawaiian) It's so pretty, I'll get her picture in it tomorrow and post it.

joy ride

Troy and I took the kids out to see the all the Christmas lights tonight. Caitlin loved it! One cul-de-sac had every house decorated and they put signs on the lawn that had the story of the birth of Jesus, so as you drove down one side of the street and up the other you read the whole story.
Dylan and Dawson love the colored lights, I like the white lights, Caitlin liked it all! She would say "ho ho ho" and "kissmus tree". I can't remember if the boys liked it so much at that age, maybe it's a girl thing.
While we were driving around I asked Dylan if he remembered what 3 gifts the wise men brought baby Jesus, he said," fragrance scent, gold and myrrh".

wise men

Had a fun day with the kids. They are so excited about Christmas. They still believe in Santa but Dawson is getting some info in Sunday School that makes him wonder. The sad part is he tells Dylan. I didn't want him wondering until he was older.
We enjoy Santa but we know the real reason for Christmas is Christs birth. Dawson made this picture today in school, it's the 3 wise men on camels following the star but for some reason he only wanted 2 wise men. I thought he did a good job. He loves to draw. We will be learning about the wise men this week in school.
Our bible verse this week is 2 Cor. 9:7 God loves a cheerful giver.

home schooling

We are a home school family. Dawson is in the 3rd grade and Dylan is in Kindergarten. I use
a-beka and we usually have a unit study going on. This month we are focusing on giving. Giving of our time and talents. We went caroling at an assisted living home recently and brought smiles to a lot of faces. Some sang right along with us. It was fun. I hope we get a chance to do it again.

tis the season....

Well we finally got the Christmas lights up on the house today. Troy did a really good job. The kids think it looks cool. So now we have the tree up and lights on the house. Now for those Christmas cards!

Welcome

Last week my boys Dawson(9) and Dylan(5) were in a "Praise-entation at church. They sang Christmas songs in the choir. They looked sooo cute in their suits and bow ties, and did a great job singing. Afterward we were able to take some pictures on stage. Caitlin (20 months) loved all the glitter of the Christmas trees. She says "Merry kismus".
