handsome boys

We went to a wedding the other day and I had to snap this one of the boys. They don't look like this very often. In fact Dylans shirt kept coming untucked all night long and the reception had a chocolate tower......need I say more. :)

The recipe

These really were very close to the KK donuts. I'm sure if i could use regular ingredients they would have been perfect. This was my first time ever making yeast donuts. I have a deep fryer but I don't fill it to the top with oil so you could just use a pan with about half inch of oil in it. I also had to play with the heat of the oil too. ( it wasn't rocket science just donuts )
So hope you all make these for your Saturday morning. :)
donut
1/2 C. scalded milk
2T. butter
1/4 C. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. yeast
1 egg beaten
1 3/4 C. sifted flour ( i had to add a little extra )

glaze
3/4 C powdered sugar
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp. vanilla
2 T cold water

This recipe has been scaled down from 50 to about a dozen donuts. I didn't follow the glaze recipe exactly, you know, again it's not rocket science- just cooking :)

melt butter in milk
add sugar and allow it to cool.
beat in yeast, egg, and flour. ( adding flour a little at a time)
kneed for 5 min. let rise till doubled (45min?)
roll out dough, cut and let rise again 30 min.

heat oil and fry 1 -2 on each side

cool on paper towel and then dip in your glaze

keep the kids away till it's all done or you won't get any yourself! :)

summer....

This is the time of year everyone looks at my kids and asks them if they are done with school. The look on their face is priceless to me. They have no idea that public school kids get 3 months off for the summer. We school all year round. I say why stop and start all over? So keep it hush, hush! I can't let the secret out! :)

Happy summer vacation to the rest of ya!!!

hangin' out

We are all clean on the back porch. Troy picked up one of those rug dr. steam cleaners and went all out today. We had some trouble with the cat not knowing where his litter box was. We used water and vinegar and the smell is all gone. Whew!
Today I decided to try hanging my clothes outside to dry. I don't have a line (yet) :) so I hung everything on a hanger and stuck a bar between 2 chairs. I did 3 loads of laundry and never turned on my dryer once. I'm hooked! It was really a piece of cake as Dylan would say :) It was nice to not heat up the house in this 90 degree weather. Might as well use it to my advantage. :)
I wonder how much you can save on your electric bill not running the dryer?

The garden update

I forgot what week I am in but the garden is growing and growing! It looks like I have 25 green peppers! There are about a dozen good sized tomatoes too. Caitlin picked a tiny one the other day, she was pretty proud of herself. :)

The cucumbers are finally doing something, they took forever!

The real garden is the upside down one.

This is Troys setup he made and it's looking really good. The plants are in the bucket and grow out of the holes on the side and bottom. It will grow to the ground. Look at the way the cucumbers are flowering!

I did see some tiny grasshoppers the other day on my pepper plant :/ gonna have to do something about that.

wall art

I did this fun thing in Caitlin's room the other day. I painted an old frame white..(of course ) And then I stenciled butterflies on the wall and hung the frame around it. I needed to put something over the bed because we don't have a headboard yet and it seems like a lot of space that is bare.

I know it's not a work of art, but I think it's fun. Not a great picture but Caitlin was jumping on the bed when I took it.

The night before Mothers Day

I had the best idea ever for Mothers Day. I was going to make the very cute cake pops and put them in a coffee cup complete with tags. Cake pops are small round balls made of cake and frosting mushed together and coated with melted chocolate and put on a stick. Except instead of baking a cake, I used oreo cakesters. Everything was going fine till I tried to put the cakepops on the lollipop stick. Complete disaster!
They broke in pieces, left cake crumbs in the chocolate coating and I began to worry if the shortcut thing was worth it.

Now what? Well you let the kids eat the scrap pile and go back to the store at 6:30 pm. I could not make a decision to save my life......pretty much the only thing left at the stores the night before Mothers Day are wilted flowers and some more wilted 10.00$ flowers.

Friday, I wanted to take a family picture and put it in a frame. That would be a nice gift. I gave everyone their haircuts and wanted everyone to wear a white shirt. Nobody was in the mood to wear white shirts......or get a picture taken. We took 2 pictures. none worked out.

I ended up with a goodie bag filled with chocolates and tea. I'm sure my mom and mother in law doesn't care too much about a gift and just want to spend some time together. Right?!
Happy Mothers Day!

my room

Been a long time, better start catching up........

I don't know where to begin.
We have been working on the kids rooms. Seems like it never ends. Someday you will see the results on here!

One thing I can post is MY room. My sewing/craft room.

Troy did a great job putting it all together for me. It's really just a little corner in the room.

But it's my little corner......

The garden has little baby cucumbers, and we are up to about 10 good size tomatoes. Troys upside down garden is growing pretty fast too. I'll have to take pictures of that soon.

O.k.......no wonder I haven't been blogging, nothing really going on:) Just taking life one day at a time around here.
