The Gold Star

Yesterday, while doing math, Dawson was working in his notebook and what would usually take a while to get done, he finished in no time at all. I was so proud of him because we have some major issues with keeping focused with math. I couldn't let this go with just a pat on the back! I really wanted him to know that he accomplished something that he has never done before. ( right about now I'm praying in my head, what do i do God, what do I do?) Remember I said I put all my homeschooling supplies together? I turned around and opened the first drawer I came to and I had star stickers looking right at me. I looked at Dawson and told him when I went to school, they gave out star stickers on your papers to take home and show your parents, but if were really good, you got a gold star! ( does any one else remember that?)
Dawsons eyes got big! I placed that gold star on his paper and he sat up so straight in his chair I could see pride all over him! I don't think he has ever felt like that....ever! Troy even came in and talked about the Gold Stars. ( now I'm thanking Jesus! 1st week of school and we have accomplished more than the last 5 years !)

Well..........

Dylan is sitting right next to Dawson. Dylan the little go getter, almost a year ahead, always happy, ready to do school everyday, big brown eyed self! He asks...."do I get a gold star?" ( Jesus!! JESUS!! what do I do?)

I wanted Dawson to know what he did was appreciated and it was exceptional.......do I now just throw stars out to everybody?!?

It broke my heart to tell Dylan that what Dawson did deserved extra special attention. He agreed with that, shook his head and we moved on, until about 15 seconds went by and the tears started flowing........O, did I feel awful! Poor kid, he could get a gold star every day of his life! When Dawsons nintendo ds broke, Dylan came to me and begged me to let him give his to Dawson. He was so happy to give that to his brother! If your cleaning up, dylan is there to help. He looks outside when it's pouring down rain and says "looks like a great day!" I can't believe I didn't cave in and fill his whole page with stars!

Now if you think I'm a terrible mother, let me just say, the next morning, Dawson got up out of bed ( even made it) got the school table in order to start the day, was sitting with his books and pencil in hand, ready to try for another gold star! I wasn't dressed or had coffee yet. NEVER! has that ever happened since we started home schooling!

Dylan has moved on and smiling again, although, he has lost another tooth. I think the tooth fairy is going to be verrrry nice to him. :)

What Love

This is what the kids wrote on the board before school today. I keep telling them (as a joke) that they have to call me Mrs. during school. Of course they never do. I like Miss :)
I had to giggle today when we sat down to start school, Dawson was the first to get out of his chair to go get lotion...(stall tactic) when I was able to swipe it off the shelf and hand it to him. Organization..........love it. Although I did forget the eraser for the white board. I'm not perfect. :)

organized

Today I put everything that is used for home schooling.......in one place! :)
Don't ask me why I haven't done this before. Sounds logical, doesn't it?! I even made a law that says....."NO TOUCHY THIS SPOT!" I don't just have all their books lined up. I have pencils, erasers, hole punch, paper, hand cleaner, tissues, pencil sharpener, craft supplies, eye drops.....yes, eye drops! I can't tell you how many times we have had to stop what we were doing to find Dawson some eye drops because he said his eyes were itching, and it take him 15 minutes to find them. We have also stopped to " I have to go blow my nose." Which leads to, "did you wash your hands?" and we wait some more for someone to wash up. Not this year! I am full of everything they need, right at my fingertips! :) Bring it on!

one day at the beach

We went to the beach for overnight the other day...
.

We had a great time together, the kids went swimming and played in the waves all day long, we ate junk food and watched movies. What a crazy 24 hours. :)

Catching up again....

I had to cave in today and run my dryer. :( I haven't used it in 2 or 3 months. My socks sure are soft :)
Lets get caught up here......
I have been very busy with my new business trying to get everything together for my etsy shop. I need to figure out, shipping costs, prices, it scares me that I will not do it right. ( or that nobody will buy anything :) )
We never really stopped school over the summer but we officially started another year. I hope to post more on the kids schooling this year. People often wonders what a home school family does through the day.....
I have 2 more weeks of being a Sunday school teacher....Praise The Lord! just sayin' :)
My garden is growing and growing and it keeps me from going insane....The pole beans grow by the hour! I made a great pesto sause with the basil. I love basil and so does Dawson, thank goodness. It's good for you.
So I fill in any gaps with cleaning, bills, grocery, you know, the not so fun stuff.

catching up

Wow, what a week. I showed everyone my "big idea" and even got some positive feed back. I feel a bit overwhelmed by it all. I have been sewing my fingers to the bone and praying something will happen for us here. I guess we will just have to wait and see and hold our breath. :)
Garden news:
Pumpkins doing great! no blooms yet but buds everywhere.
Pole beans_ oh my word_they are amazing! I planted them maybe 2 weeks ago and they are a foot tall attaching themselves to the pole.
Green Peppers, I have a lot of them but they are growing kind of awkward shapes. Still taste good though
Jalapenos, Dawson's favorite, he can't keep up with all of them....and they are HOT!

I love my garden! It's just so relaxing to watch it grow :)

School is doing great, thanks to a friend that let me borrow her curriculum. Saved me some big $$$ and that's what we need to do at our home these days. :)
Hope you all are having a great summer........
